Where are you from?

Well, this is always a hard question for me to answer as I had parents in the army. I was born in Georgia, but raised in the small city of Clarksville, TN, and then moved to Florida when I was 12. I spent 12 years in Florida and decided it was NOT for me, so I made the cross country move to California.

What influenced your decision to become a stylist?

I was working in The Body Shop when I was 18 and actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I have always been a creative person, but the thought of doing hair or working in beauty never once crossed my mind, until my stylist at the time had suggested that I try it out. She thought I would enjoy it…something clicked, and  I applied to school.  Here we are over 10 years later!

What do you feel your specialty is and what training have you sought in this area?

I would say at this point in my career, color is a huge strength of mine as well as precision haircuts. I was an Artistic Director for Supercuts for over 6 years and got a lot of opportunities with them. Every year they would have us do advanced education trips: one yearly with John Paul Mitchell Systems and then a second with other distributors, such as SexyHair, American Crew, Redken, etc. I gained a lot of knowledge over those years not just from the trips, but from working in the education department myself.

What are you doing when you’re not behind the chair?

Honestly, probably playing video games.

What can we look forward to seeing from you in the future?

That remains to be seen! I am excited about the direction I’m headed, you can keep updated on my instagram, @hairbydavidbailey.

How do you take your coffee?

Strong, dark, and a dash of oat/almond milk and a whisper of sugar. shhh…
